I used this Thanksgiving break to focus on the members of my family that remain at home. I explored each member's reaction to when we moved from Illinois to California five years ago. Each one of them was a stabilizing force in my life during that transition. I was overcome by gratitude for their roles in my life. We often joke that every family should go through a major move together because it is super effective in making the family closer to one another.

The process of making this video was intimate and cathartic. Similar to my ritual project, there was a sanctity to intentionally witnessing my brother, mom and dad. Each of them reacted with such willingness to my project. It gave me permission to focus on them in significant ways. When it came time for me to add the voice over, I was overcome by warm sentiments. The fact came through in the final product. Calvin, my mom and dad all cried when I showed them the final video. They called it a gift, I felt I was the one on the receiving end.
