LOST
CHILDHOOD OBJECT

For our first 4D Intermedia project we were tasked with re-creating an object of significance from our partners childhood. I was partnered with Emily. I found that her object was easy to conceptualize, she described it with such fondness, it made me eager to get started!
My dad and I spent good quality time together in the garage putting this skateboard together. It gave me an opportunity to explain to my dad the significance behind the piece. It gave us a sense of respect towards what we were building.

I had described a 'My Littlest Pet Shop' to Emily. The thing that struck me the most was my inability to describe it accurately. I was able to find an image of the exact one I was thinking of and I had misrepresented it in a couple significant ways. To me, this spoke of how easily memories become skewed as we grow up.

Otherwise, she did a wonderful job combining my memory with the reality of what it was. She utilized paper-mache to mimic the shaggy hair I remembered. She put a blue paw print on its front paw and took a picture of it toppled over due to the disproportionate size of its head. It made me feel seen. She had listened to me well and reflected her care through the attention to detail. Interactions such as this is a gift during shelter in place. Where human connection is more sparse.
